Amazon announced a major change for sellers on its USA marketplace, this week as part of an update that will be introduced in the near future. Amazon Sellers will soon be required to display both their business name and their address on their seller profile pages. Merchants who work as individual sellers will be required to input their own personal name and address.
The difference in laws around the globe means that these features are already in place on Amazon across Europe, Japan, and Mexico, although this would be a first for the US. The company have claimed that the decision to add the feature to United States seller pages comes as they look to provide a consistent baseline of seller information, allowing their millions of shoppers to make more informed decisions.
This news comes amidst Amazon’s pledge to spend billions of dollars to fight against fraudulent activity within the marketplace. The change in question will assist in businesses or individuals taking legal action against sellers, as well as dealing with fraud. In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said:
“Over the years, we have developed many ways for sellers to share more about their business, including through features like the seller profile pages, ‘Store’ pages for brand owners, and Handmade ‘Maker Profile’ pages. These features help customers learn more about sellers’ businesses and their products. Beginning September 1, we will also display sellers’ business name and address on their Amazon.com seller profile page to ensure there is a consistent baseline of seller information to help customers make informed shopping decisions.”
The names and addresses will be added to seller profiles by September 1, 2020.
